KWIBUKA30: NCDA JOINED MIGEPROF, MINIYOUTH AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS TO COMMEMORATE THE GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI

Bugesera, May 06, 2024 - The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, the Ministry of Youth, the National Child Development Agency and other government institutions working in the same building namely Rwanda Cooperation, the National Public Service Commission, Rwanda Elders Advisory Forum, the National Women Council and the National Youth Council commemorated the Genocide perpetrated against theTutsis in 1994.

The event was marked by messages, songs of remembrance and testimony by a genocide survivor where all the staff from these institutions gathered at the Ntarama Genocide Memorial in Bugesera District. They paid tribute, laying wreaths at the memorial site and taking a moment of silence, reflect on the tragedy in which, more than one million of Tutsi were killed in Rwanda.

Hon. Antoine Mugesera, a member of the Rwanda Elders Advisory Forum, urged the staff to cherish their country, make sacrifices for its advancement, and foster unity. He emphasized that unity was a cornerstone that played a pivotal role in helping the RPF Inkotanyi to liberate the country and stop the Genocide against the Tutsis in 1994.

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, emphasized the fight against genocide ideology by setting positive examples for the younger generation.

"Children and youth often imitate the behaviours of their elders and leaders. With this in mind, I urge you to elevate your actions and speeches to serve as positive examples for the younger generation, fostering a sense of unity and fighting any form of genocide ideology." Highlighted Dr. Uwamariya.

Every year, Rwanda and friends of Rwanda commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, a period marked by paying tribute to the victims while standing in solidarity with the survivors.
