NCDA equips housemaids with positive parenting skills
The National Child Development Agency (NCDA) has trained Kigali based housemaids on positive parenting since they spend most of the time with children while their parents are away fending for the families.
The one-day training took place on March 29th 2026 around different sites in Kigali. The session brought together maids whose daily responsibilities frequent with children.
The participatory discussion focused on child rights, child protection against all forms of violence, children’s safety, the importance of kindness and mutual respect in parenting, the role of housemaids in child development, as well as health and hygiene.
They also discussed how housemaids could help children in education and play; caring infants and toddlers (0-6 years) and housemaids-employees’ work relations.
Part of the discussions also included listening to the challenges housemaids face in providing positive parenting to the children under their care. They welcomed the initiative and requested to make it regular.
At Gasabo District site, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, Mireille Batamuriza joined trainers and reminded housemaids on their role in families particularly in children’s growth.
She noted that their work is always recognized, urging them to act professionally and refrain from mistreating children.
