NCDA, partners celebrate ECD day with launch of new ECD center

Kigali, October 23, 2025 – The National Child Development Agency (NCDA) and partners celebrated the day that was allocated for Early Childhood Development (ECD day) by inaugurating a new ECD center constructed in Jabana Sector of Gasabo District.

The celebration event took place in Jabana Sector and was attended by the Deputy Director General for NCDA, Gilbert Munyemana, Gasabo District Executive Administrator, representative of the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), representative of the European Union (EU) mission in Rwanda and other partners.

During the event, officials inaugurated Bweramvura Community ECD center that was constructed in partnership with BNR; and handed over assistive devices (wheelchairs and crutches) to children with disabilities; the assistive devices were bought through the EU-funded ‘TUBAKUZE Project’ implemented by NCDA.

Speaking at the event, DDG Munyemana hailed ECD program saying that it reflects Rwanda’s vision to become a knowledge-based economy built on well-nurtured children from early years.

He said the inaugurated ECD center belongs to the community and requested community health workers to decentralize health services to children.

“This center is yours as the community, community health workers need to do regular visits and screen children, those found with problems would be referred to the health facility, when there is shortage in hygiene you need to remind them for improvement”, he said adding that positive parenting should be at the center stage.

He called for the community’s special attention to children with disabilities by taking them to ECDs.

The EU representative said that TUBAKUZE program contributes to the commission’s global gateway commitment to strengthen education systems worldwide, particularly infrastructure and services that contribute to lasting positive impact to inclusion.
