Rwanda organized the 15th Summit on the World Children’s Day

The 15th National Children’s Summit was held at the Parliament Hall, Kimihurura on November 20th, 2021, under the theme: “I am the Future” as Rwanda joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Children’s Day.

One hundred twenty children representatives, government officials and partners gathered to exchange on children's participation in development programs and their stake in creating a better future while reflecting on joint mechanisms to address issues that undermine the rights of the children.

Elodie Octavie AKOYIREMEYE, the President of Children's Forum Committee at National level was among the participants.  She commended the Government of Rwanda for providing such an opportunity for dialogue to children.

"The Children’s Summit has helped us to contribute our views on important national issues, especially policies and programmes that affect children. I encourage all children to take every opportunity, to be active and think big because we are the future."  She pointed

The theme “I am the Future” aimed to empower children and encourage the community to support children's development and their aspirations.

We cannot prepare a better tomorrow without investing in children and ensuring their full participation in the country’s socio-economic transformation journey. The Government of Rwanda will continue to work with all partners in upholding children’s rights. They are the future.” Said Pr. Jeannette Bayisenge, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion

As this year’s theme remind us, we need to continue investing in children so that we will have an empowered next generation” Said Lindsey Julianna, UNICEF Country representative in Rwanda“Children are the future; let’s support them, leaving no one behind” She added.

In line with the 15th Children's Summit and marking the World Children’s Day, children also took over high leadership roles in politics, security and private sector to show their ability of being next generation leaders.

The World Children’s Day was established by the United Nations’ General Assembly in 1954 and is observed every year on 20th November to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare. The National Children’s Summit was initiated in 2014.
